The Shahnameh account
The most cited source for the Kawa legend is Ferdowsi's Shahnameh, the 10th-century Persian epic. In it, Kawa's uprising is presented as a righteous rebellion against a tyrant whose reign lasted a thousand years. Ferdowsi paints Kawa as neither prophet nor prince — simply a working man whose grief finally outweighed his fear.
Kurdish folk traditions
Kurdish folk tradition adds regional colour: the mountains of the Zagros are said to be the shelter of Kawa's followers, and Nowruz bonfires echo the fires Kawa lit to summon the villages. The Kavian Banner — the Derafsh Kaviani — is a shared symbol across Kurdish and Persian cultures.
Why folklore is a game, not a doctrine
We treat the legend as a story worth telling, not a religious text. Kawa Legend takes narrative liberties for gameplay reasons (five boss phases, twenty chapters, skill trees), but the moral core — resisting cruelty, valuing the life of ordinary people — is faithful to the folk tradition.
